Microneedling Masterclass – Smoother, Firmer, Healthier Skin

No matter your age, chances are good that you remember your youthful skin. You remember how smooth, bouncy, and fast-healing it was. You recall how even your complexion looked in the mirror without scars or spots to distract you. So, what happened? What caused your skin to age like this in the first place?

At Regeneris Medspa & Cosmetic Surgery in Boston, MA, we understand the science of aging. We’ve built on that understanding by offering the latest, scientifically-backed cosmetic and aesthetic skin care treatments on the market today.

Microneedling and RF microneedling have risen through the ranks to become some of the most in-demand treatments throughout the skin care industry. But what are microneedles? What is RF? And most importantly, how can these treatment options restore your skin to a more youthful state? To fully appreciate microneedling, it helps to understand why we age in the first place.

What Causes Skin to Age?

As we grow older, our skin stacks up years of wear and tear. Sun damage and certain lifestyle choices—like smoking and frequent trips to the tanning salon—slowly compromise the quality and health of our skin.

Then, there’s age itself and its effects on our production of collagen—one of the most vital structural proteins produced naturally by our bodies. Skin cells can only divide so many times before running out of steam and losing form. Without ample collagen production—which diminishes with the years—we’re left with unhealed damage and weary skin cells.

To reverse this potent mix of aging factors, we need a treatment classified as “collagen induction.”

What is Collagen Induction?

Collagen induction therapy is a classification given to any treatment that causes a boost in collagen development. Along with elastin—another structural protein responsible for skin’s “elastic” quality—collagen promotes healing, corrects texture, and enhances hydration.

Microneedling and RF microneedling classify as collagen induction therapies because they create a localized uptick in your body’s production and distribution of collagen. But why choose microneedling above other collagen induction therapies? How does it even work?

How Microneedling Works

These days, we have smartphones, smart watches, and smart TVs. But by nature’s design, we also have smart skin.

The network of nerve fibers throughout your skin communicates instances of damage to your brain. In response, your brain commands your body to produce more collagen and elastin to close the wound and repair the skin and tissue.

By tricking your skin into detecting “damage,” microneedling hacks your body’s healing response. Beyond the healing agents your own body produces, there are no injections, serums, or chemicals involved in a typical microneedling treatment.

What do Microneedles do?

A special applicator lined with extremely fine needles is used for both microneedling and RF microneedling. These needles are quickly and painlessly inserted into the skin in a grid formation, creating microchannels through your skin’s layers.

As smart as our skin is, it can’t easily distinguish between types or severities of wounds. Damage is damage, so far as your skin’s concerned. So, it diverts resources to supercharge collagen production, leading to increased healing, better skin quality, and reduced hyperpigmentation (discolored skin cells) in a targeted area.

How is RF Microneedling Different?

In addition to using the same microneedles, RF microneedling uses radiofrequency energy to further boost collagen production. Radiofrequency waves are sent down the microchannels in your skin and into the lowest layer (hypodermis).

You may remember from school that light is also heat. These radiofrequency waves follow the microchannels down and into your skin, heating up the lowest layer of supportive tissues. This heat further generates collagen and elastin to heal new and old wounds.

Without the passageways created by microneedles, these RF waves would not be able to penetrate as deeply or create so many benefits. Hence, the combination of traditional microneedling with RF energy.

Beyond Microneedling – Better Tissue Absorption

The microchannels created through the microneedling process have even more additional benefits. These microchannels permit for easier absorption of growth factors and other skin-boosting proteins which can further enhance your skin’s anti-aging properties.

At Regeneris, Dr. Ryan Welter has developed the Stem Cell Facial—a leading-edge application of a stem cell medium following a microneedling procedure. This stem cell medium flows down into your skin through microchannels to produce a powerful anti-aging effect and anti-inflammatory response, contributing to even brighter, beautiful, and youthful-looking skin.

What are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Collagen does not discriminate between forms of damage. While the microchannels themselves are quickly closed and healed, that wave of new collagen sticks around, smoothing skin, repairing old scars (especially those from acne), and reversing the discoloration caused by sun damage (freckles, liver spots, age spots, etc.).

Naturally, this flood of collagen has many advantages. The top benefits of microneedling include:

  • Fewer fine lines/wrinkles
  • Repair of old & new acne scars
  • Brighter skin
  • Tighter skin
  • Improved skin texture
  • Reduction/elimination of hyperpigmentation
  • Shrunken pores
  • Reduced/eliminated stretch marks
  • Can combat rosacea redness
  • Can treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

Micro Needling Allows for Better Tissue Absorption

Because micro-needling causes microscopic breaks in this skin, these “micro-channels” can be used to help with the absorption of growth factors and other proteins which can further enhance anti-aging.  At Regeneris, Dr. Ryan Welter has developed the stem cell facial which is the application of stem cell medium after micro-needling to achieve both a strong anti-aging and anti-inflammatory response leading to naturally youthful skin.

Are You Ready for the Next Generation of Skin Care?

You may see collagen lotions and creams at your local drugstore, or take collagen supplements to support your skin. While the efficacy of these products varies, even the best topical collagen solutions can’t hold a candle to microneedling.

For smoother, firmer, healthier skin, microneedling and RF microneedling lead the way. To learn more about these procedures, or to schedule your appointment today,  give us a call at (781) 412-1309 or contact us online.
